Grate and Ashpan

Grate and Ashpan
A rocking grate is provided, consisting of 10 rocking sections, 5 each side of the centre line, each rocking section carrying 12 renewable firebar units. The two sides of the grate can be rocked separately from the footplate, the operating gear being so arranged that two different travels can be employed, i.e. full travel for dropping the fire when the engine is over an ashpit, and a shorter travel for agitating the fire to eliminate ash and break up clinker while the engine is on the road.
The ashpan has three self emptying hoppers, one between and one each side of the main frames; these hoppers have bottom flap doors connected by a shaft with universal joints and operated by a lever at ground level. Front damper doors on each hopper are opened and closed by a screw gear worked from a handwheel on the firemans side of the cab, allowing a fine adjustment of the air opening.
Held in Store
- One (need a pair) standard rocking mechanism which may or may not be correct require drawing to compare.
Wish List
Complete ashpan and grate, these are consumable items and are often replaced on all locomotives. If anyone would like to buy the engine a complete rocking grate and ashpan please get in touch.
